The Slaves were brought to Cape Town by shortly after the Dutch landed in 1652.The were from Sumatra,Java and Borneo.The survivors of the sea journey were sold,could not speak their language,have a religion(not much Malay language survived)The indentured Indian labourers came to SA in 1860-200 years after the Malay slaves came.Check Cape Malays in Wikipedia.(I’m a Cape Malay)

Does not sound like he dropped his “r”s.. Unless by dropping you mean enhancing it.. I hear a lot of T’s too.. hehe
I’ve seen a lot of Afrikaans-speaking people who sound like that. They drop the “r” when they talk. It’s common among Dutch or German speakers, and the Afrikaans language originated in Holland.

I know cause I’m Asian Indian from the Caribbean, and we were indentures in the 1800’s like in south africa etc to work on sugar cane plantations…they were promised land and wages etc

asians weren’t slaves…they were indentures…they were hired on contract..but it was close to slavery anyways…
